Track Lab is a hands-on music production workshop where students build an actual track from scratch — beat, melody, vocals and all — using the same tools used by professional producers.
Track Lab is a collaborative music production programme where students create an original song together from scratch. Through beat-making, recording, songwriting, and creative decision-making, participants learn how modern music is created while developing communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills.
Students gain firsthand experience with the creative tools and workflows used in today's music, media, and content industries. No prior experience needed.
At the end of every session, every student gets the track to stream and share. It's theirs. They made it together.
Quick intro to the world of music production. What does a producer actually do? We listen to a track and break it down.
Students take turns shaping the drum pattern — kick, snare, hi-hat. The groove is decided by the group. We also record live percussion to add something real and human to the rhythm.
Students choose from a selection of chord progressions to give the track its musical identity and emotional feel. This is where the song starts to have a mood.
Students play melody ideas on the keyboard and the group decides what sounds and feels right. We explore different synth sounds and patches to find what fits the track best.
The group comes up with a phrase or hook, then we record lead and background vocals together. One student steps up to the mic, the rest sing as a group. This is always the highlight of the session.
Faders, reverb, a little polish. We talk about what mixing means and why it matters. The track starts to sound finished.
We bounce the track. Every student gets a link to stream and share. We play it loud one final time. The room goes wild. Session done.
